Abstract

The global governance of international security by state actors in the international environment is becoming challenging because of the rising patterns and approaches of supporting the activities of terrorism. As a result of the rise of advanced Financial Technology (FinTech), state actors face the difficulties of regulating the financial inflow through the advanced Financial Technology. This paper therefore examines the effects of advanced financial technology in combatting international terrorism financing in Nigeria from 2009 to 2024. Adopting a securitization theory which argues that security is not just an objective condition but a speech act, the paper adopts thematic method of analysis to analyze the data gathered to understand the effect of financial technology in combating international terrorism in Nigeria. The paper concludes that Terrorism financing has continued to serve as fuel for terrorist outfits in Nigeria, despite the precautions put in place by the government and agencies, there is yet to be an impactful remedy to eradicate the scourge from the country’s jurisprudence totally.
